THQ held an event revolving around their upcoming game Darksiders II, while at the same time showcasing some of their other upcoming titles such as WWE ‘13, South Park: The Stick of Truth, and Company of Heroes 2.
It was a bit more of a physical event than usual, with a smokey room setup with multiple areas where stuntmen and combat experts took the media through a variety of different events. Described as such:
- Hold flaming balls of fire and throw them across the room.
Translation: Fling a tennis ball on fire against a wall.
- Build your acrobatic skills with techniques for different jumps, landing and flips.
Translation: Jump and roll.
- Learn elite combat skills including use of Death’s formidable scythe.
Translation: Pretend fighting.
A bit underwhelming, but eventually I did get into it thanks to the assistance of my choreographed fighting colleagues Nathan Lawrence and Stevivor.
US Creative Manager on Darksiders II Jeremy Greiner also flew in for the event, and was there for media interviews. As for Darksiders II itself, I was a huge fan of the original, and looking forward to the sequel it’s looking and running better and better with each new build.
Exclusive gameplay video was shown of Company of Heroes 2, showcasing the effects of what the Russians called ‘General Winter’ on the battlefield. Individual units freezing due to hypothermia, iced rivers cracking under the stress of heavy tanks, and intelligent A.I. reactions.
There was also gameplay from South Park: The Stick of Truth shown and … well … it’s now one of my most anticipated games of 2013.
Big thanks to Tess Reddy, THQ and the Magnum PR team for the event.
